Leicester City Supporter Groups will put rivalry with Nottingham Forest aside this week to draw attention to the Football Supporters Association (FSA) ‘Stop Exploiting Loyalty’ campaign.
Fans from the Official Leicester City Supporters Club and Foxes Trust will get together with Nottingham Forest supporters ahead of Friday night’s game at the King Power stadium to show solidarity with clubs up and down the country. Many supporters are experiencing eye watering ticket price rises, and in some cases, the removal of concession prices.
West Ham and Spurs recently put their London rivalry aside and released black balloons to demonstrate their opposition to both clubs removing and eroding concessionary pricing.
Fans from clubs nationwide are planning action for this weekend until the 4th of November to send a message to football clubs… stop exploiting fans’ loyalty.
The Official Leicester City Supporters Club has written to the club expressing their concern on the increased prices that City fans are having to pay for away trips such as Manchester United. The Foxes Trust also shares the Official Supporters Club’s concern about the negative impact that such prices are having on the atmosphere at games.
It is hoped City fans will also join those from Ipswich at the match on 2 November for a similar show of solidarity.
Steve Moulds, from the Foxes Trust said, “I paraphrase a quote from Sir Bobby Robson, as it expresses why it’s so important not to price supporters out of the game.”
“What is a club in any case? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it. It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes. It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city. It’s a small child clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping their parent’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath them and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.”
Any fans wishing to support the campaign, can join in on Friday evening outside the Fox and Soar at 6.45pm where you’ll see the FSA’s Stop Exploiting Loyalty banner. The banner will not be taken into the ground out of respect for the memorial displays arranged.
