Yesterday’s points deduction is not a punishment for ambition, it is a punishment for sustained mismanagement.
The club budgeted at a level that was incredibly risky and without adequate safeguards. A wages-to-turnover ratio reported at over 116% is just one example of this. Continued poor recruitment, repeated managerial failings and a decline in standards have all contributed.
Ultimately, this mismanagement has undermined our ability to succeed on the pitch and has now left us six points worse off, facing a genuine relegation battle.
Rather than learning lessons and adjusting accordingly, the club continues to contest PSR rulings. All focus must now be on ensuring compliance for the current and future seasons.
This deduction is the culmination of years of poor decision-making, much of which continues today, with little meaningful change in the senior leadership responsible for the football operations and finances.
Accountability keeps standards high and there appears to be very little accountability right now.
We reiterate our call for the Director of Football to step forward, provide much-needed clarity and outline the strategy moving forward.
