FSA Women’s Network
Foxes Trust representative, Lynn Wyeth, attended the latest FSA Women’s Network meeting this week.
The group discussed various issues with fixtures. At present there is a 2-stage process. After waiting for all the men’s leagues to announce, the women’s fixtures are then given a specific weekend, but it takes a further 2 weeks for the clubs to decide which day to play on. There are all sorts of challenges around not clashing with the men’s games, especially if the men’s stadia are now being used more for the women’s games. The network has asked the FSA to contact the leagues and clubs to ask them to speed things up!
The 6.45pm Sunday fixture slot is not popular with fans, especially families, but broadcasters get their best figures for women’s football then. Especially if their men’s team is on the 4.30pm slot before.
The specific issue of the recent postponement of Chelsea/Man Utd is currently being discussed on the network and the FSA is looking into it. The game has been postponed due to the champions league campaign kicking off 2 days later. Only a week’s notice was given, and travel, hotels etc. now all must be cancelled, and money lost.
The Euros 2025
The FSA is hoping to work with Sportsworld to deliver Free Lionesses for the Euros. Follow @FreeLionesses on X for updates on tickets, meet ups, etc. The FA is trialling a home section at the next two Wembley games where we hope to get a good singing section going.
Tickets are on sale here: https://www.uefa.com/womenseuro/ticketing/
Watch WSL Games
YouTube has replaced FA Player to broadcast live WSL games, but the quality was poor and it cut out with ten minutes of most games to go this week. The FSA has raised it with the league.
