Ben Nelson Loan Report

Ben spent last season on loan in EFL League Two at Doncaster, so we asked Martin O’Hara, secretary of Viking Supporters Co-operative for feedback on his performances.

“I’ve got a collection of views and opinions for you here;

Would a limerick do?
There was a young lad called Ben
A lad in a team of old men
Try as he might
The team were still shite
I don’t think he’d play for us again.

Lots of potential, stylish player when on the ball sees a pass but pass completion could be better, tends to pass out to feet that gets cut out, defensively can be caught out square on to a player taking him on, and not particularly a strong tackler, decent in the air, and positionally good.

Lots to work on but picked up an injury when looking like coming to terms with some of his weaker aspects to his game.

Needs to stop the through ball near goal and square balls across the front of his area that get cut out by fast attackers and less back passes into his own danger area.  Not helped here last season by the laziest midfield when not on the ball he will play with.

I thought Nelson grew in his time with us and put in some really good mature performances, definitely one I expect to progress at a higher level.

Looked a little bit feeble when he first arrived, however grew into it and competed physically. Wasn’t helped by our revolving door of centre halves.

Looked composed and could pick a pass out at times. Not a criticism but something to work on but his distribution was at time poor.

Brave lad took some clattering’s that looked to be season ending only to be back for the next game until his season did actually end.

this lad looks like he will go far, wish we could have him for another Season …”
