Forgotten Man – A Posh Viewpont

One player that has received no mention prior to pre-season training, is left back Tom Kennedy who was loaned out to Peterborough for the second half of last season, but how did he do ?

Scott Garner from the Posh Trust gives us an insight

“Tom Kennedy’s arrival from Leicester should have been a huge deal after his short trip down the A47, but it was overshadowed or possibly instigated by the return of Darren Ferguson.

The Posh were struggling in the left back area due to injuries and inconsistencies before Tom arrived and the fans were pleased with his signing.  Having witnessed him previously at Rochdale we were aware of what he was capable of and hoped he could step straight in to the breech.

Tom started well with consistent performances in his first 5 starts and became a solid part of the back four.  A slight injury and lack of match fitness ruled Kennedy out for three games before stepping back into the back four.

Kennedy’s lack of a right foot was more than made up for by his excellent positioning, great work rate and cultured left foot.  His vision and passing fitted well into the open free-flowing style of football we played.  He linked up well with Tommy Rowe and George Boyd to offer a stable left side we had lacked up to this point in the season….

Tom became a vital cog in the ever improving Peterborough United machine before his desire and passion robbed him of a playoff final winners medal.  In a game against Dagenham in early April Posh were comfortably 2-0 up with just 12 minutes to play when Kennedy made a 50/50 challenge that took guts and proved commitment.

Sadly he came off worse in the challenge and was stretchered of the field.  Sadly this was his last performance not only for Posh but for the rest of the season with knee ligament damage.  He was sorely missed and no one player really made the left back slot their own before the season ended.

Regardless of any rumoured transfer targets, Tom Kennedy is one player the London Road faithful would be delighted to see playing for them in the Championship.”

As an update, we checked with contacts at the club about Tom’s recovery from injury and understand that he is currently doing his re-hab and we gather is full of praise for the Club's medical team, who he considers to be first class and who are helping him enormously on the road to recovery. Tom hopes that it won't be too long now before he is back working on the training pitches again
