Rich heritage, struggled to compete financially in recent years, but lots to be positive about, especially the work of Martinez.
Favourite thing about your home ground: Atmosphere at night games when Goodison is packed.
Favourite match played by your team & why: 4-4 draw with Liverpool in the FA Cup replay (1991). Back when the FA Cup mattered. Imagine playing your rivals and coming back from a goal down four times, scoring at the end of normal time and then extra time. Plus we won the (second) replay.
Favourite player of all time who played for your club: Kevin Sheedy. Won things and a player years ahead of his time.
About our forthcoming match against you:
Not too sure what to expect, as you guys are a bit of an unknown quantity.
Your favourite current player in your squad and why? Ross Barkley – can do things few other players can.
Player in your squad we should most fear and why? Barkley – because you can't mark him out of the game, he can come up with something at any time.
Player in our squad you most fear and why? Not so much an individual as that you'll be well organised, get a goal and then keep it tight while we struggle to score without Lukaku (not yet fit after Brazil).
Up and coming prospect in your squad? Muhamed Besic – only just arrived but plays with the arrogance that Martinez likes. Commits a lot of fouls, but plays with passion and no little skill. Looks promising.
Where do you think you’ll finish this season? 5th.
How do you think you’ll do against us? Wouldn't be surprised at a draw. Not the best pre-season for us, and we started slowly last season too.
