Going to Stamford Bridge – Updated 30/10

Are you one of the 6,500 going to Chelsea?, if so here is our guide (30/10 see update at foot of article)

Stamford Bridge is the most central of the London grounds and is easily accessible by tube or bus from the centre. Parking is available in surrounding streets but Peter Trenter from Chelsea Supporters Group tells us that parking is virtually impossible and suggests parking out of town and getting the tube in, he says "wardens take no prisoners and the car will be gone if illegally parked! be warned!"

From The North, East or West:

Use the M25 to take you round to junction 15 and turn off onto the M4 towards London, follow the M4 which becomes the A4 up to Hammersmith. Stay on it over the Hammersmith flyover and for a further 1.5 miles before turning off for Earls Court. Go past Earls Court station and down the one way system until you hit Fulham Road, turn right at the traffic lights. Go straight on for 600 yards and the ground is on your right.

From The South:

Head for Wandsworth bridge to cross the river. If using Wandsworth bridge, cross the river and head straight up Wandsworth Bridge Road. At the Junction with New Kings Road turn right and then immediately left. This will take you up to Fulham Broadway, turn right onto Fulham Road and the ground is 400 yards on your left.

By Train
The nearest tube station is Fulham Broadway on the District Line, take a train to Earls Court and change for Wimbledon bound trains…..

Pubs:

Chelsea has the most pubs and restaurants of any club in the country within a square mile, avoid those close to the ground and you should be OK, most away fans stop at Earls Court (15 -30 min walk or 2 tube stops to Stamford Bridge) and eat / drink around there.

Ross Mooring on the Football Ground Guide adds; The best (well, least partisan) pub for away fans is the Slug and Lettuce outside Fulham Broadway train station. It's an upmarket pub with a good security and police presence outside on matchdays. Very full but rarely any trouble. Away fans though should avoid the Sofa Bar.

Away from the ground near Parsons Green Tube Station is the White Horse. A large comfortable pub which sells good food and a range of real ales including Harveys Ales from Sussex. To find this pub with the new West Stand behind you turn right (up past where the away coaches are parked) up Fulham Road and into Fulham Broadway, passing the tube station on your right. Continue to follow Fulham Road around to the left and then take a left hand turn into Parsons Green Road. Go under the bridge passing Parsons Tube Station on your right and you will reach the White Horse pub on your left.

Trains take 1hr 30 to 2hr 30 to St Pancras then there is the tube across London. There is a train back at 11-15 but takes 2hr 30 to Leicester cost from £41-70 plus the tube. Tube takes approx 30 min but there may be engineering works.

Please check the cost and times of trains etc. All information is provided in good faith but the Foxes Trust cannot be held responsible for any errors.

30/10/07 Update – Additional Information courtesy of Trizia from Chelsea:

Parking – forget about it – it is all resident parking around the ground – and even if you put it on one of the extortionate parking meters you can only do so for a maximum of two hours. The nearest you can park is the bottom of the North End Road, but its a fair old hike. The nearest car park is up the Fulham Road at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital (really expensive) or at the Fulham Broadway Shopping Centre, but you would need to get in there fairly early as a) it gets very full and is not very big and b) they close it a couple of hours before kick off.

Your best bet is the tube – get off at Fulham Broadway and follow the crowds – its a two minute walk.

Pubs – most around there will not let away fans in with the exception of the Slug and Lettuce – out of the station and right (instead of left to the ground) – 2 minute walk.

There are loads of places to eat – in the Fulham Broadway centre there is a Nandos, Pizza Express and one of those posh burger places – and on the Fulham Rd there is everything you can think of – Italian, Thai, Indian, TGIs etc etc
