Pompey Watch – Club faces the threat of being wound up

The situation at Portsmouth FC is quickly developing into a dire situation for their fans, as they could become the first club in the Championship who fail to complete their fixtures. Today Trevor Birch, partner at PKF and joint administrator of Portsmouth Football Club, has made a statement on the official club website including

“Following our discussions with the Premier League and Football League over the past few days, it has emerged that Portsmouth Football Club is unlikely to receive any further parachute payments or other league funding

“We had previously stated that there was a real danger of the club running out of cash before the end of the season. The risk of this happening increases substantially without the money from the football authorities. Unless something significant happens, there is a real possibility that we may not be able to fulfil the season’s fixtures”

Reacting to the statement the Pompey Supporters Trust published the following on their website

“POMPEY SUPPORTERS TRUST STATEMENT ON GRAVE SITUATION FACING PORTSMOUTH FOOTBALL CLUB

The worrying news from Trevor Birch today, which was first stated on Radio Solent this morning and subsequently in an official statement on the Club's website that PFC may only have days to survive, will no doubt be of great concern to Pompey Fans wherever they are.

The PST would like to assure Fans that we are exploring every avenue to help save PFC and to find a buyer for the club to enable it to complete the current season.

We would like to take this opportunity to make an appeal for anyone to come forward who may be able to assist and to contact the Administrators, PKF, at Fratton Park or the PST on either the email address: info@pompeytrust.com This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. It is clearly more important then ever that Fans support the club financially and Pack The Park on Saturday against Middlesbrough. We can show the world, along with any possible buyer, that this fantastic football club is worth saving and it could be made to be great once again with our support.

We would also ask Fans to donate to the PAY4APAL scheme which has been launched by the PST on the 12th Man website – http://www.pompeys12thman.co.uk/pay4apal.php

If Pompey were not able to fulfil their remaining fixtures the BBC website states “The BBC understands that any advantage accrued by other teams in games against Pompey, including points and goal difference, would be wiped out by the Football League if the side do not fulfill their remaining fixtures”.

Our side played out two 1-1 draws this season, so 2 points would be deduced from our current total, from the sides currently around us, Burnley would have no points deducted, Leeds would have 4 points taken away, Hull & Derby both 3 points reduced and Palace just one point removed.
