The Foxes Trust welcomes the announcement by Leicester City that safe standing will finally be implemented at King Power Stadium.
Along with other supporter groups, safe-standing is an issue the Trust has encouraged the Club to take action on, with our active involvement increasing following a clear indication by our members that they were in-favour of safe standing (our end-of-season survey showed that 58% were in favour of the introduction, with a further 30% agreeing depending on where it was located).
The Trust is pleased to see the Club move from being one of only a handful of Premier League clubs that had not implemented safe standing to now giving a large proportion of match going fans the opportunity to stand safely at home games.
The role played by Union FS in lobbying for the introduction of safe standing should be recognised. The Club acknowledged and thanked UFS and the Trust for the valuable contributions made to the consultation process, including the joint proposal submitted. The Trust hopes that progress on this issue demonstrates why it is important for supporter groups to collaborate, engage constructively with the Club, and have a voice on key issues.
Whilst the Trust anticipates that fans may have valid concerns about how and where safe standing will be implemented, this announcement by the Club is a step in the right direction for improving match day safety and atmosphere at King Power Stadium.
We will encourage and support the Club in engaging on a transition plan, openly and constructively, in order to assist those supporters currently in affected areas to move out of them should they not wish to stand. Doing so will give safe standing the best chance to have a positive impact on the atmosphere within the stadium and minimise issues with standing outside of designated areas.
