The Foxes Trust was shocked to read the detailed allegations in the media this weekend made against former Leicester City Women FC’s Manager, Jonathan Morgan.
The Trust appreciates that the allegations refer to events that took place prior to the current owners, King Power, taking over the women’s team in 2020, and that some information cannot be released in order to protect the privacy of those women involved. The Trust, however, will be asking the club about current practices, what they are doing now that the new issues have been raised and whether they will be commenting on an issue that will be of serious concern to many fans and the general public.
Lynn Wyeth, who represents the Foxes Trust on the Football Supporters Association (FSA) Women’s Network said,
“Whilst Morgan’s actions do not appear to be criminal, the stories suggest a potential abuse of his position due to the imbalance of power which would clearly be unacceptable. This would not be the first club to have this problem and the FA and clubs need to be sure they have robust safeguarding procedures in place so it doesn’t happen again.”
The Trust urges anyone playing football who has any safeguarding concerns to raise them with their club’s safeguarding lead, or if criminal activity has taken place, with the Police.
