Oppos Views – Sheffield United Part 2

A bit about you:

Name:      Peter Coates

Current home town:      Leicester

Birthplace:       Sheffield

How long have you supported your team?     Since birth

Overview of your club:

Favourite thing about your home ground:      Good atmosphere

Favourite match played by your team & why:  The best match I've ever been to see was a home FA cup tie against the mighty Coventry City.  This was the same year we lost to Sheffield Wednesday in the semi-finals at Wembley.  At the time Coventry were a Premiership side and Sheffield United were firmly in the Championship.  Seeing the number of Coventry players costing over a £1m I didn't think we had much of a chance.  Indeed we spent most of the game behind after Coventry scored early on.  It stayed that way until second half injury time when David Holdsworth scooped the ball from the edge the penalty area into the net.  1-1.  After extra time we won on penalties.

Favourite player of all time who played for your club:  It has to be Brian Deane, scorer of the first Premiership's first goal, and our leading scorer until we sold him to rivals Leeds.

About our forthcoming match against you:

Your favourite current player in your squad and why?  Any player who is not out injured (though I think most are back now), is not banned for taking stimulants, and whose loan period does not expire after Christmas.

Player in your squad we should most fear and why?  Darius Henderson – his hat trick against Bristol City away from home shows what he can do.

Player in our squad you most fear and why?  Matty Fryatt – he knows where the goal is.

Up and coming prospect in your squad?  Kyle Naughton.  OK we sold him.  Welsh under-21 international Ched Evans then.   At £3m, its probably the most we have spent on a player ever or in a long time.

Where do you think you’ll finish this season? A few weeks ago we were 3 points from the relegation zone.  Now we are 2 points from the playoffs, so who knows.

How do you think you’ll do against us?  City are flying, so an away draw would be a good result for us.

Any other comments?  Good luck City against the other teams in the division.
