Oppos Views – Sheffield Utd Part 1

As a build up to Boxing Day, here is the first of two Blades fans views.

A bit about you:

 Name:  Phil Cobb

Current home town:   Leicester

Birthplace:  Hellaby, South Yorkshire

How long have you supported your team?  32 years

Overview of your club:      Yo-yo team like Leicester but financially stable and need to move onwards and upwards

Favourite thing about your home ground:      The fans singing of Greasy Chip Butty Song resonating round the ground

Favourite match played by your team & why:      Definitely the Play-off Semi Final match v Forest (thought the Leicester fans might like that one) 0 – 2 with 20 minutes to go. Pesch changes the game and then a beautiful own goal by "boy beautiful" for Forest to round off the evening. Myself and my daughter were both hoarse at the end off the night!….

Favourite player of all time who played for your club:      TC – Tony Currie

About our forthcoming match against you:

Your favourite current player in your squad and why?      Captain Morgan

Player in your squad we should most fear and why?      Jamie Ward – he's all over the pitch and he just makes the forwards tick!

Player in our squad you most fear and why?       Matty Fryatt – he scores goals!

Up and coming prospect in your squad?       We have Kyle Naughton back on loan for the season from Tottenham and as he loses his brash youth approach to the game he should settle down to being a solid reliable player, unfortunately not for us!

Where do you think you’ll finish this season?     In the Play-offs

How do you think you’ll do against us?     Hopefully win but probably a draw

Any other comments?     I've gone through a lot with my team the good (being top in 1971 I was behind the goal where George Best scored THAT goal – a fluke in off the post), the bad – relegation to the old 4th Division and the ugly – the Battle of Bramall Lane. We've very much mirrored what Leicester have done over the years. I'm hoping that one day when we get to a big stage game, play-off final, FA Cup etc, we actually turn up for the match! But regardless I'll be there (140 mile round trip for every home game).
