Going to Peterborough?

With 4,000 making the trip to London Road for the mid-day kick off, here is our guide for the various transport options available.

By car from South (A1): Look for signs for 'Football Car Parks'. Two miles after the Norman Cross junction, exit A1 and follow signs to Peterborough (A1139) onto the A1139 Fletton Parkway. Exit the Fletton Parkway at junction 3. At roundabout turn left onto the A1260 Nene Parkway. Take first exit and at roundabout turn right into Shrewsbury Avenue. At T-junction after half a mile by Longueville Autos, turn right into the A605 Oundle Road. Fair Meadow car park is on the left hand side after one mile and the stadium is opposite.

From North (A1): Exit the A1 at signpost 'Leicester, Peterborough North A47'. Turn left at T-junction onto the A47. Exit the A47 after 5 miles, at junction 15. At the roundabout turn right onto the A1260 Nene Parkway. Exit the Nene Parkway after 1 mile. At the mini-roundabout by the 'Gordon Arms' turn left onto the A605 Oundle Road. Fair Meadow car park is on the left-hand side after one and a half miles.

From East (A47): Pass through the village of Eye following signs to Peterborough A47. At the roundabout turn left and at the next roundabout turn right. At the following roundabout take the 2nd exit. Then as from North…..

Car Parking
The pay and display council car park at the stadium is £3 (up to 10 hours) from 7am to 5pm and £1 (unlimited time for the day) from 5pm to 7am. An alternative car park at the stadium is £3 for cars (home and away fans) and £14 for coaches. The police advise that visiting fans park in the Fair Meadow car park on Oundle Road. Street parking is also available.

Where to Drink

The Cherry Tree pub on Oundle Rd is quite popular with away fans. Although small it is a friendly pub. It costs £2 to park in their car park but you may get £2 off a beer if you present the parking ticket at the bar. The Palmerston Arms is away fan friendly and has around 10 real ales on offer. This pub is situated around 100 yards further along Oundle Road on the opposite side. Whilst Gordon Pearson recommends the Peacock, which can be found 'as you come over the River Nene, proceed down London Road past the ground on the left and the pub is situated on the right at the traffic lights next to a KFC drive through'.

Near to the ground is Charters, which is certainly worth a visit. This former Dutch barge, is moored on the River Nene, just a few minutes walk away from London Road, on the left hand side of the bridge, going towards the town centre. Upstairs is a Chinese restaurant, but downstairs there is a bar, which had on my last visit 12 real ales on tap. It was friendly enough and fans were able to take their drinks out onto the riverbank, which makes it quite pleasant, when the weather is good. Alternatively, the ground is in walking distance (10 minutes) of the town centre (which is very pleasant and complete with a cathedral) where there are plenty of good pubs to be found. If you are arriving by train then the Brewery Tap near to the station on Westgate, is worth a visit. The home of Oakham Ales, this spacious bar serves good beer, Thai food and allows you views into the brewery itself.

By Train

The train takes about 1 hour, last train back 20-52pm Off peak return £16-90

The stadium is bout three-quarters of mile from stadium. By bus: No buses run from the station itself, but the bus station is just across Bourges Boulevard. On foot, turn right out of station and then left – take footbridge over the main road to bus station. By foot: Turn right out of station and into the long-stay car park. Go under the Railway Bridge and walk up the path or steps to main road. Turn right, passing the Evening Telegraph on the left-hand side and then Asda to the right. Turn right into pedestrian shopping area (Bridge Street) and straight on over River Bridge and mini roundabout. Ground is on left hand side. There are of course plenty of taxicabs available from the Railway Station if you don't fancy the 10-minute walk.
