Premier League pledges £1bn redistribution as fan campaigning starts to pay off

The meeting of Premier League clubs last Thursday saw fans outside the Le Méridien Piccadilly in central London to protest about ticket prices building on the success of the “£20 is Plenty campaign” which resulted in a number of clubs agreeing reciprocal deals for away fans.

Inside the meeting, a letter calling for a small percentage of the new £5.14 billion television rights deal to be used to help lower the cost for supporters, especially travelling fans, was read to the members by Premier League Chief Executive Richard Scudamore. The Foxes Trust was one of the organisations who signed the letter. The letter was a central piece of a new campaign #sharewealth

Following the meeting, the Premier League quickly released news of a new deal giving significantly more funds focusing on five key areas. http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/news/news/2014-15/mar/260315-premier-league-clubs-to-share-record-amount-of-TV-deal.html

The Football Supporters Federation welcomed the new deal http://fsf.org.uk/latest-news/view/fans-win-share-of-1bn-premier-league-promise

However a well written piece on the day’s events was written by the Co-Chair of Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust, who regularly contributes to a number of football websites. He reveals how the intensity of campaigning has significantly increased since the FSF and the Premier League Trusts have worked closely together and in doing so added significant weight to the debate, providing a co-ordinated voice clearly demonstrating support from supporters organisations of every club. https://www.the-newshub.com/football/premier-league-pledges-1bn-redistribution-as-fan-campaigning-starts-to-pay-off
