As I live in north Hertfordshire, I shared my railway journey with several Spurs fans, who nearly all said they were going to lose. I naturally did not share this view and at half-time it looked as if I would be correct.
However, in five mad minutes at the beginning of the second half we equalised and then took the lead, and the score remained this way until the end of a very nervy match if you were a Leicester fan. It was particularly nice that we saw all the goals at the end where we were sitting – and I mean sitting for once!
When I heard the team, I was surprised that Cordova-Reid was starting in place of Mavididi, but in all fairness the latter has been less than convincing recently. I still wasn’t won over by Cordova-Reid, but he assisted both goals, so Ruud must be congratulated on his decision!
On a bitterly cold and wet day the pleasure of sitting in a football stadium to watch my team lose again was less than attractive, but funnily enough I did not feel cold during the second half!
Watching MOTD 2 you could think that Leicester had very little of the play in the first half, but that was not the case. I don’t know what the possession stats were for the first half, but most of the play was at the end away from the City fans. When Richarlison scored it looked like it would be another day when City pressed but were undone by one mistake. Fortunately, it didn’t matter this time despite a lot of huffing and puffing from Spurs.
There were some very disgruntled home fans, which made a pleasant change from Leicester fans having a go at the team, staff and board! Of course, our fans – and Vardy – loved reminding the opposition of a certain Premier League title win and the evergreen ‘Who came third in a two-horse race’ chant was aired many times.
It is to be hoped that this result will be built on, although Everton away will be a difficult game, as they seem to have rediscovered their mojo. Time will tell if the Spurs result is the beginning of a recovery or a false dawn – fingers crossed for the former.
