A Sheffield Wednesday fan has been banned from the club for life, been arrested and lost his job after a vile tweet this weekend.
Whist fans around the country were shocked to hear of the sad death of West Bromwich Albion fan Mark Townsend at this weekend’s game, Sheffield Wednesday supporter, Richard Crisp, caused outrage on social media for mocking the death.
He was charged with sending communication/article of an indecent or offensive nature under the Malicious Communications Act.
Leicester City has, in the past, banned supporters for tweets. Please think before you post.
Please also be careful at games. Football is tribal and passions can flare. You have one shandy too many and before you know it you find yourself on the pitch being tackled by a Walsall player. Look out for your friends; don’t let them do anything daft. Stay off the pitch, don’t take flares in and knock off the tragedy chanting. We need fans in the stands keeping us up this season, not getting banning orders.
If you do find yourself at risk of being banned, contact Lynn at the Foxes Trust (lynn.wyeth@foxestrust.com) or the Football Supporters Association (FSA) for advice. Whilst criminal acts are not condoned, it’s important that any ban is fair and reasonable. Membership of the FSA is free. https://thefsa.org.uk/contact/
