As the new season begins, instead of being excited and optimistic about what the Premier League may bring after a celebratory return, many Leicester fans are unhappy. Apprehensive. Worried. Frustrated.
What appears to be a miserable transfer period is coming to an end with a lack of strengthening of the squad, something that new manager Steve Cooper and the players have been crying out for. After being linked with what feels like dozens of players, none of the more exciting signings have appeared. Fans are going into the season feeling disconnected from the club after a torrid few months, and disappointed that the board have not made any big signings. A last minute shiny new 3rd kit is not going to put a plaster over the current wounds.
The Foxes are starting a season with injured and aging players, players that managers don’t seem to have much faith in, and a squad that doesn’t scream out ‘Premiership quality and experience over here!’ Pre-season didn’t show any players at their best, with players out of position and no clear style of play obvious.
The club still doesn’t know how many points it may face as a deduction due to the PSR rules. We must fight for every point and 40 points may not be enough to stay up this season.
So, this season the players need the supporters more than ever before. Even when we want to scream in frustration or leave early to miss the traffic. We’re the twelfth man and we must give everything, as we expect the players to, like never before. Never underestimate the power of supporters to lift a team.
We cannot turn on each other.
We cannot turn on the team.
We cannot turn on the manager.
On Monday night, under the lights, we need to put all our frustration aside and make the KP that cauldron that measured on the Richter scale… however hard it may be sometimes.
We’re 4/9 in the odds to go straight back down. We’ve beaten 5000-1 odds before, let’s beat the odds again this year. Together.
