During the international break, the Trust has been speaking to fellow fan organisations to check the progress of some of our players who are out on loan.
In the first of the articles, Malcolm Clarke, who is a member of Stoke City Connect (the clubs main fan consultation body), provides a report on Tom Cannon
“I’d say the general view on Tom Cannon is quite favourable, without being OTT. A lot of fans thought we needed a “traditional No.9” and he’s fulfilling that role quite well – plenty of effort and enthusiasm and he’s reasonably quick and has a decent rapport with the fans.
He’s scored 7 in 13 games. This is obviously a reasonable return at first sight, but 4 of those were in one match against Pompey when they were bottom of the league, and 2 of them were penalties, so maybe the jury is still out on his goalscoring.
There have been games when he has appeared peripheral to the action, and he’s been ‘hooked’ a couple of times, but how much this was due to lack of service and how much down to himself, is debatable.
There is a social media debate about whether we should make an offer for him in January (always assuming of course that Leicester and Tom himself would be willing to do business). I think the consensus is that it could be good business but only if the price is right, and that some of the figures bandied about are ridiculous. “
