View from the opposition:
A bit about you:
Name: Peter Scholes
Current home town: Bamber Bridge
Birthplace: Carlisle
How long have you supported your team? 33 years
Overview of your club:
Favourite thing about your home ground: Terracing. The ground is looking shabby now but to still have standing terraces is great. When full, they really help to generate a good atmosphere. I can't think of another ground in Britain with more terracing than Brunton Park.
Favourite match played by your team & why: There have been so many but in recent years the fixtures against Leeds United home and away have been great. We beat them 3.1 at Brunton Park in front of a full house to end their unbeaten start to the season in their first season back in the third tier. The ground was rocking that day.
I also enjoyed being down at Elland Road in the play off first leg and turning them there.
For pure drama you cannot beat the Jimmy Glass game. That game brought out every emotion in me from despair to pure elation. I don't think I will ever experience anything like that again in my life and to be part of it all on that day in 1999 was pretty special.
Favourite player of all time who played for your club: There have been quite a few who have been a joy to watch and in recent years Matt Jansen and Michael Bridges really caught the eye but my favourite player when I was growing up was Malcolm Poskett. A good, old fashioned, centre forward who had a real eye for goal.
About our forthcoming match against you:
Your favourite current player in your squad and why? There are some exciting younger players coming into the team right now but, for pure quality at this level, I can't look beyond Lee Miller – one of the senior members of the squad. When on form, he is head and shoulders above the others around him.
Player in your squad we should most fear and why? Again, Lee Miller will cause problems but the younger players breaking into the team bring a little bit of the unknown factor with them. Look out for Dave Symington and Mark Beck upfront. The two of them put Ipswich to the sword last season and, with another year’s experience under their belt, could cause a few problems for you.
Player in our squad you most fear and why? Nugent will always be a handful up front and will make life difficult for our young defence. Having seen Ben Marshall here and then go on to develop into a real talent in the Championship, I hope he doesn't come back to haunt us – he has before!
Up and coming prospect in your squad? We have a lot of talented youngsters breaking into our first team this season – many through necessity due to injury or suspension. Their confidence might have taken a battering in recent weeks with some heavy defeats but, should they come through this difficult period unscathed, they should go on to have good careers in the game.
Gillespie, Symington, Beck and Potts are already first team regulars and they are being following by a number of others such as Salmon, Todd, Gwinnut and Lynch. The hopes are high for the future and Eric Kinder (ex youth team manager) should be very proud of his work with the youngsters.
Where do you think you’ll finish in the League this season? I did have high hopes at the start of the season (blind optimism as ever) but, after a disastrous start, I may have to think again. I always a 'glass is half full' type of person so I will go for mid table following an excellent second half of the season.
How do you think you’ll do against us? Again, I cannot possible predict anything other than a Carlisle win but it will be tight. I will go for 2-1.
Any other comments? I hope any fans travelling north enjoy a great Cumbrian welcome and have a safe journey.
