Oppos View – Swansea

View from the opposition – Swansea FA Cup 2nd Jan 2010

A bit about you:

Name: Kevin Mahoney

Current home town:  Barry

Birthplace: Swansea

How long have you supported your team? 45 years

Overview of your club:

Favourite thing about your home ground: Decent view from every seat (prefer the Vetch)

Favourite match played by your team & why:  In recent times the favourite game played by my club was probably the 3-0 away FA cup win against Sheffield United simply because it was so unexpected, our squad was so stretched that day that an unknown kid from the youth team called Joe Allen was on the bench.

Favourite player of all time who played for your club:  Lenny Allchurch brother of legend Ivor Allchurch. Len was a tricky winger the Swans signed coincidentally enough from Sheffield Utd, he was one of those old fashioned wingers who danced and feinted all over the place with the ball at his feet leaving fullbacks running round in circles trying to tackle thin air…….

About our forthcoming match against you:

Your favourite current player in your squad and why?  Current favourite player is Leon Britton, probably the most consistently skilful player to play for the Swans for many years, lightening quick feet and an absolute terrier breaking up opposition attacks and winning back the ball before distributing, lack of a decent shot the only thing slight weak point in his game.

Player in your squad we should most fear and why?  We have a number of players who on their day can prove to be a match winner, although I would say that Nathan Dyer on his day is virtually unplayable, I've almost felt sorry for a number of opposing fullbacks facing him recently when he's on the top of his game.

Player in our squad you most fear and why?  Matty Fryatt because of his goal scoring ability

Up and coming prospect in your squad?  Joe Allen has to be our most exciting prospect at the moment, a skillful midfielder diminutive in stature only, a more attacking shooting version of Leon Britton who is displaying maturity beyond his years and will become a fixture at the heart of the Welsh midfield in the next few years.

Where do you think you’ll finish this season?  Start of the season I thought that we may well struggle after having the managerial and coaching heart of the club ripped out during the close season ( I think that Martinez even took the tea lady with him to Wigan) However Sousa has done more than steady the ship after a difficult start. I'm now confident of a there or there abouts playoff place.
