View from the opposition SWINDON TOWN

A bit about you:

Name: David Mouland

Current home town: Glenfield,      Birthplace: Devizes, Wiltshire

How long have you supported your team? 37 Years

Overview of your club:

Favourite thing about your home ground:  It’s where MY team plays (occasionally), it has the Magic Roundabout next door and is the only ground in the country that has a Rolex watch face for the ground ‘clock’.

Favourite match played by your team & why: Swindon Town 4 Arsenal 3

We played Arsenal in the League Cup (when it was the League Cup) in 1979. We had drawn at Highbury and played a full strength Arsenal team in front of 26000 at the County Ground.  We went 3-1 up only to be pulled back to 3-3 just before full time.  We then scored in extra time to go through to the next round, only to be stopped from reaching the final by Wolves. – Sorry to disappoint those of you who thought I may mention another 4-3 game……….it was however a very close second!….

Favourite player of all time who played for your club:  Jan Aage Fjortoft – The Premier League season of 1993-94 was unforgettable. OK, we got hammered on many occasions but I do not regret the experience at all.  We would have sunk without trace way before we actually did if it had not been for Jan Aage.  Did not score before January that season, but then could not stop. Sold for an absolute pittance the following season.

About our forthcoming match against you:

Your favourite current player in your squad and why? Simon Cox for scoring the goals or Lee Peacock for wearing a thick sheepskin coat after the last match of the season on a very warm May day.

Player in your squad we should most fear and why? Simon Cox our first regular, goalscorer for some time.

Player in our squad you most fear and why?  Matty Fryatt – he’s scored more goals than Simon Cox

Up and coming prospect in your squad?  Callum Kennedy

Where do you think you’ll finish this season? 17th – that will do – for now

How do you think you’ll do against us? We have had a few new signings that have changed things around a little. If they have had a chance to get any more games played by 14/2 we may spring a surprise.

Any other comments? I work close to a lot of City fans so you could say a draw would be best. However if I was being honest ever since my first visit to Filbert Street, in November 1987 when we lost 3-2 after leading 2-0 in the 81st minute I feel as though a late comeback is overdue (of course we have to be near enough in the first place……………). I know we sort of nicked a point last time we met but, come on – you are already promoted, surely?
