Oppos Views – Hereford

A bit about you:

Name: Kevin Goodwin

Current home town:  Hay-on-Wye    Birthplace: Newport

How long have you supported your team? 10 years

Overview of your club:

Favourite thing about your home ground: The whole ground. It may lack the facilities that many, if not all, the grounds have in League One, but for atmosphere and nostalgic value, it just can't be beaten. Too many stadiums are being built out of town or all seaters. Edgar Street may be the worst in the league but few places have the character our ground has.

Favourite match played by your team & why: For this season, the 3-0 home win over Cheltenham springs to mind. A local derby, against a team we hadn't played for a good few seasons, and we comfortably beat them. Even their former striker Steve Guinan popped up with two goals!

Overall, our 3-2 win over Halifax at the Walkers Stadium. It followed two consecutive seasons of play-off heartbreak in the Conference, but that day in May in 2006, we finally managed to win promotion in what was a superb spectacle…..

Favourite player of all time who played for your club: For me personally, I'd have to go with Paul Parry. An exciting winger, who could beat defenders with ease and scored plenty of goals. He's at Cardiff now and I have followed his career very closely since he left in 2004.

About our forthcoming match against you:

Your favourite current player in your squad and why? Lionel Ainsworth. He's here on loan for a month from Watford having left us to join the Hornets last season. He's our most exciting player as he gets the ball down and runs at defenders along with scoring goals, something we've lacked so badly this season.

Player in your squad we should most fear and why? If he's still here on loan, Ainsworth. He'll give your left-back a torrid time. If not, I wouldn't worry too much about them! If anyone is capable it will be Toumani Diagouraga, he's a lanky French midfielder in the Vieira mould with a bit of class about him.

Player in our squad you most fear and why? Matty Fryatt. He can't stop scoring can he?

Up and coming prospect in your squad? Matty Done. Signed from Wrexham in the summer for an undisclosed fee after our manager Graham Turner had chased him for the majority of last season; has been in and out of the team this year but has pace and skill which at a young age, is two good attributes to have. With the right management, he could turn into a class act.

Where do you think you’ll finish this season? I'm gonna be optimistic, and say we'll narrowly avoid relegation in 20th place!

How do you think you’ll do against us? Can't see us getting anything from your place. We'll keep it tight like we did up at Leeds and hopefully frustrate you whilst having the odd counter-attack, but can't see us keeping Fryatt and co out for the whole 90. 2-0 to you lot.

Any other comments? Should be a good away following on the day. A few of your supporters may have been present when we beat Halifax in 2006 at the Walkers Stadium. Your ground holds a place in many Hereford fans' hearts, and it's one of the first fixtures, I, and many more looked for when the fixtures came out.
