A bit about you

I’m Brian Smith (Travel Officer from Scunthorpe United Official Supporters Club) www.suosc.co.uk

I have been following Scunthorpe United now for 42 years in which time we have had quite a few good times but a lot of bad ones.

I currently live around 3 miles from Glanford park but call in two or three times a week as I help out at our Study United Centre.

I was born in the heart of Lincolnshire at Boston but moved up to Scunthorpe when I was eleven years old.

Favourite thing about our home ground?

The main thing it is a friendly place to go watch football, I’m afraid only home fans are allowed in the Iron Bar before a match and after, but there is plenty of quick food places and a pub just 500 yards away.

Favourite match played and why?

It has to be the second Leg of the Division Three Play Off  Semi-Final in 1998/99 against Swansea City, we were 0-1 down from the first leg but within 2 minutes we had scored, then City levelled in extra time, but then super sub Sheldon got 2 and sent us all wild….

Favourite player to have played for us?

Well if I have to name just one then I would go for Nigel Cassidy but we have had quite a few really good players within the last few seasons, Billy Sharp, Andy Keogh, Steve Torpey and  Lee Hodges to name a few.

Favourite player in squad?

This player has to be Paul Hayes, Paul works his socks off and has formed a formidable partnership with Gary Hooper.

Player you should fear?

Can I say all of them because on their day no one can play against them, other than that Gary Hooper because he will chase the ball down and score.

Player in your squad to fear?

If fit then it has to be Paul Dickov, although he is getting old now he has the knowledge of where to be to cause the most damage.

Up and coming prospects in our team?

I know he is a loan player but Kristian Pearce is only 19 but you can tell he will be a winner in a couple of seasons, but our own talent we have a few coming through in Michael Lea, Jake Picton, Joe Wilcox and Peter Winn.

Where will we finish in the league?

I am hoping for a top two finish but if we get up through the play off system I will be quite happy.

How will we do against you?

I am hoping it will be more exciting than last years encounter between us, a 0-0 draw, it was not a good advert for Sky Sports was it, I can see The Iron winning probably 2-0 or 2-1 but it will be close.

Any other comments.

Can I just wish you luck for the rest of the season after you have played us of course, and see you in April when I hope we will be playing our last game away in the Division One before stepping up to the Championship again.
