Oppos Views – Rotherham

A bit about you:

Name: I am Chris Saxon, a member of the Millers Trust, supporters trust group and I compile the millers trust website at www.rufctrust.co.uk.

Current home town:  I currently live in North Lincolnshire in the strangely called Isle of Axholme in a village between Doncaster and Scunthorpe.

Birthplace: I was born in Rotherham, hence my affiliation to RUFC.

How long have you supported your team? I have supported the Millers for over 40 years and am quite used to hard times after being deducted 37 points in the past three season's! Hopefully we are over the worst and things can only get better. Through all of this our manager Mark Robins has been brilliant and deserves all the accolades he's now receiving via the media.

Overview of your club:

Favourite thing about your home ground: As for the favourite thing about our home ground, well I suppose it's the overall facilities at Don Valley, which is taking some getting used to after Millmoor, which is still our spiritual home. Our state of the art floodlights and the leg room in the seats is something to behold but it's an athletic's stadium and difficult to warm to for a football match….

Favourite match played by your team & why: My favourite match was probably when we beat Brentford a few years back which clinched promotion to the Championship. I also enjoyed every visit to Hillsborough as we always seem to win there and we don't particularly like the Owls, an understatement as most Millers simply hate them!

Favourite player of all time who played for your club: My favourite player is either Tony Towner a dynamic winger who starred in the late seventies or Alan Lee who did the business quite recently.

About our forthcoming match against you:

I am looking forward to the Leicester game as we are at home and we are doing pretty well at Don Valley. However, despite beating Leeds in the last round, we are due for a fall and the Foxes might well prove a bridge too far, though I hope not!

Your favourite current player in your squad and why? Of the current squad, our keeper is arguably the best in the lower leagues Andy Warrington, with his grey hair looks about 60 but plays like a teenager and is actually in his late 20's!

Player in your squad we should most fear and why? Perhaps you should fear a young striker, Rueben Reid who has strength and pace though at just 19 he's somewhat raw. We have lots of up and coming youngsters and many are filing through the ranks.

How do you think you’ll do against us? My heart says another win for the Millers though my head says we may lose.

Any other comments? I have a soft spot for Leicester as I worked in the city and lived in Melton for five years not too long ago and often visited Filbert Street. I have also been to the Walkers Stadium. After our game I wish you all the very best. I used to love the games against Forest, your rivals.
