Back to that Winning Feeling

Leyton Orient 1-3 City

Two-goals in the dying moments from Matty Fryatt and Andy King gave City all three points against a strong Leyton Orient side at Brisbane Road on Saturday.

Nigel Pearson’s Blue Army were looking for a win following last week’s defeat against Millwall at the Walkers Stadium and did succeed in their quest but were made to wait following lengthy spells of pressure from the home side.

City did, however, take the lead after just 11 minutes through left-winger Lloyd Dyer. The former MK Dons man received a well placed pass from Steve Howard and slotted past Morris in the Orient goal from 20 yards out. Moments earlier, Matty Fryatt hit the crossbar following a cross from Max Gradel and a save from Morris.

Towards the end of the first half, Orient rallied and were able to equalise just before half-time. A corner from Ryan Jarvis was directed past David Martin by Adam Chambers on 44 minutes giving the home-side a deserved goal. Orient gained rhythm in the second half and commanded large periods of the game putting City on the back foot, who were unable to string passes together, meaning that the ineffectual Max Gradel was replaced by Nicky Adams on the hour-mark….

Fryatt did, however, strike the bar once again with a lob over Morris but was unable to drop into the back of the net. With 3 minutes to go, City regained the lead through their top goal scorer, Fryatt finished from close range after good work from substitute DJ Campbell and a scramble in the goalmouth. Andy King sealed victory shortly afterwards side footing the ball past a hapless Morris in the Orient goal.

2,505 City fans were in attendance at Brisbane Road where there was a total of 6,448 supporters in all. It wasn’t a convincing performance from City with David Martin’s kicking, and Max Gradel’s effectiveness getting the most question marks from the fans at the game.

However, City do seem to be able to win despite not playing too well and this can be of comfort in the hope that when the side do play well, they can rack up a cricket score.
