Football Aid Breaks Record at The Walkers.

Twenty-six Leicester City fans have set a new Football Aid record for the most amount of money ever raised from playing on the hallowed turf of The Walkers Stadium.

Nearly £7,000 was raised by Foxes fans, each of whom had paid for the unique chance to pull on the famous royal blue shirt and play in a 90 minute fully officiated charity football match on the 11th May 2008. Fans travelled from as far as Surrey and Newport to live their dream, which was  supported by Leicester legends Ali Mauchlen and Paul Ramsey, both who played in the match. .

A fiercely contested game, the Away team scraped to victory, winning 4-3 in the penalty shoot out. Fan Shaun Burden from Leicester won Man of the Match for his contribution.

He said:  “I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone at Football Aid and Leicester City, as a month ago, my dream came true. I have always wanted to wear my hometown clubs colours and run out onto the pitch and show what I could do.

”To be voted man of the match for the home team was a major honour for me and without you guys I would never have had such an opportunity.”

In past years, moneys raised from this event have helped fund projects including Melton Mencap, Leicester Down Syndrome and Anti Bullying Alliance, all of who were nominated by Leicester City FC……

All funds raised from the event are distributed through Football Aid’s parent charity Field of Dreams, and split between Diabetes research and management programmes and other highly deserving charitable projects nominated by Leicester City FC.
