LCFC provides support to bereaved supporters

Leicester City Football Club is pleased to announce that following the success of last year’s inaugural event, that it will once again be holding a service of ‘Remembrance and Thanksgiving’ at the Walkers Stadium on Sunday 11th May. This event gives bereaved supporters, and the families of ex-staff and players the opportunity to remember and celebrate the lives of their deceased loved ones.

The service will take place in the club’s Garden of Remembrance and will be led by Club Chaplain, Bruce Nadin (If the weather is inclement this will take place in the West Stand). The theme of this service will be ‘When you’re smiling’ – a reference to the song often chanted by City fans on the terraces – and for obvious reasons will contain a strong football emphasis.

The event will be informal, but dignified and will provide inspiration, comfort and hope to those who still grieve. Singing will be provided by the soulful voice of singer-songwriter Kristyna Myles who sang at last year’s service. At the end of the service light refreshments will be provided.

Club Chaplain Bruce Nadin said, “Last years event attracted nearly 250 people despite the atrocious weather conditions. The feedback from those who attended was overwhelmingly positive. Many commented that the service helped them enormously, and hoped that the club would repeat the experience. We are confident that this years service will attract larger numbers.”……

Alan Birchenall said, “The football Club plays a huge part in peoples lives. The Garden of Remembrance has provided a means for supporters to express their sense of loss and grief through the club. This event builds on the popularity of the garden, and enables the club to provide continued support and contact with our bereaved supporters.”

Supporters who hope to attend, or would like the name of a loved one read out during the service, are advised to contact the club by email:  [email protected].or [email protected] or via the Supporter Hotline 0116 229 4555.

The Service takes place in the Garden of Remembrance on Sunday 11th May and commences at 2.30 p.m. The service should finish no later than 3.15 p.m. and will be followed by refreshment in one of the club’s function rooms.
