Oppos View – Plymouth

A bit about you:

Name: Robert Carkett

Current home town: Blackawton (village!)   Birthplace: Plymouth

How long have you supported your team? As you would expect, since first taken to watch Argyle by my father – so that would probably make it about 40 Years!

Overview of your club:

Favourite thing about your home ground: It’s location – a stroll through the park

Favourite match played by your team & why: Toss up between the FA Cup semi-final against Watford at Villa Park in 1984 (a narrow 1-0 defeat but we were in the 3rd division at the time and thus a fantastic achievement) and the 2nd Division play-off final against Darlington (1-0 win at the old Wembley as this was the only time I’m likely to see my team play a competitive match at Wembley!) (Oh me of little faith!).

Favourite player of all time who played for your club: Paul Mariner

About our forthcoming match against you:

Your favourite current player in your squad and why? Oh my god they’ve all been transferred! I suppose of those left it has to be Peter Halmosi because he’s just a class above the others…..

Player in your squad we should most fear and why? See above

Player in our squad you most fear and why? It has to be Barry Hayles – he’s bound to score against us!

Up and coming prospect in your squad? He’s just been sold to Everton (Dan Gosling)! So of those left it’s probably going to be someone like Luke Summerfield or Jamie Mackie (21 years old just signed from Exeter for £145K) who I’ve never seen!!

Where do you think you'll finish this season? Mid table

How do you think you'll do against us? 0-0 or 1-1

Any other comments? The Ian Holloway move was just so sad. I had great respect for him and can fully understand the reasons he left to join Leicester. He just went about it the wrong way. If he had been honest and up front he would have been welcomed back to Home Park (when you next visit) but because he was being less than honest right up to point when he left it just left a sour taste in the mouth. As a consequence the numerous Argyle fans expected to travel to the Walker’s Stadium on 9th Feb are probably going for the wrong reasons i.e. to abuse IH rather than support their team.

With thanks to Plymouth based Foxes Trust member Tony Norman for asking Robert
