Loan Report – Callum Elder

The Foxes Trust aims to gather the views from fellow Trusts when LCFC players go out on loan. With no games this weekend, we obtained the views of Peter Lloyd, a former Chairman of the Posh Trust on Callum Elder’s progress at Peterborough following their weekend 2 – 1 home win against Fleetwood Town.

“Callum Elder has been quite a big hit at Posh but isn't a flashy sort of player himself. What he has done from a more or less established position at left back is give Posh even more attacking options (we don't really do defence but Posh are the top scorers in the four top leagues) because his support play and particularly his crossing have been good.

The local paper published an interview with Callum soon after he joined us http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/football/peterborough-united/posh-an-elder-who-will-get-much-better-1-6937099

Recently he made the last of our goals in the 3- 0 win over Burton in the FA Cup win with a good cut back cross. He has defended well and sometimes bravely. There have been a few missed passes, sometimes giving the ball away in dangerous positions, but overall he's improved and shown all the attributes of a good all round footballer.

He is level headed, quick, comfortable on the ball, pretty good in the air and has an eye for the opportunity to get forward. The management seem to like him and the Chairman said just this week at a fans forum, "We are keen to keep Callum Elder after January if a deal can be worked out." So are Posh Fans!

After today’s game against Fleetwood the local paper stated “Callum Elder: He’s a rock-solid performer. Few issues defensively and when he gets the opportunity he can deliver a superb cross.

He set the first goal up with a lovely whipped centre from the left. He’s a good player who is improving by the game”

I was there, he looked strong and good with the ball. Still a bit to learn about defensive positioning but I agree with the journalist when he says he is improving,"

Current Posh Trust Vice Chair, Barry Bennett, also gave his views “Callum has become one of the fan's favourites at Posh. He has played at left back, or wing back depending on formation and has shown very confident skills adding greatly to the team’s performance. Defensively Calum is very alert and anticipates the opposition’s movements, he is quick and tackles well and has the ability to get forward to join in with the attack.

I hope Posh are successful in getting an extension to his stay at London road or better still signing him on a permanent deal.”
