Oppos View – Burnley

Name: Shaun Dyer

Current Home Town: Leicester

Birthplace: Bury

Overview of your club:

Favourite thing about your home ground:  We play there, you can get a pie and a pint for less than a fiver and it is the home of Bertie Bee the only mascot in the country to rugby tackle a streaker (Google it, it's brilliant).

Favourite match played by your team & why:  Burnley 1 Sheffield United 0 at Wembley in the playoff final. A top class goal winning it for us by the legend that is Wade Elliott (now plying his trade in the Europa League with Birmingham). Always great to get one over on Blackwell too, I'll never forget the day he came out for the second half with a bust nose after Stan Ternent had punched him when Warnock sent him to spy on our half time team talk, genius. Another amazing day followed in traditional Burnley fashion by a swift and painful relegation…..

Favourite player of all time who played for your club:  Glen Little, scored the goal that got us into the championship and basically carried us for the three seasons before that and we only paid a few thousand to sign him from Glentoran. I remember one game we were playing terribly we'd just gone 2-0 down at home and he made Andy Cooke pass him the centre, he then waltzed through their whole team and shot from the edge of the area with the keeper pulling off a great stop. He the turned to the rest of the players as if to say, it's as easy as that lads; we went on to win 4-2.

About our forthcoming match against you:

Your favourite current player in your squad and why: Jay Rodriguez, Burnley born and bred he is the perfect centre forward. Fast, powerful good on the ball and in the air and with a cracking shot on him. Also I've met him a few times and he is a top bloke. I wouldn't swap him and his strike partner Charlie Austin for anyone else in the league.

Player in your squad we must fear and why?  Charlie Austin, the lad is on fire at the moment with 9 goals to his name 8 of those in the league. He is a real old fashioned predator in the box and reminds me a lot of Andy Payton… before he hit the bottle.

Player in our squad you most fear and why? The thing with you boys at the minute is you remind me a lot of England. You have lots of great individuals and on paper you should be a top, top team but you don't play like a team. I'd have to say Nugent, he is a tricky customer and the old boys always end up scoring against us.

Up and coming prospects in your squad?  We have tone in the youth team but Stevie Hewitt seems to be the pick of the bunch at the moment, a real hard working central midfield player who has been fast tracked into the first team. Shay McCartan, a young Northern Irish forward has also been banging them in for the ressies but both are unlikely to feature against your boys.

Where do you think you will finish this season? Hopefully top 6 but were in a bit of a transitional year. If we can get the lads playing we have a chance but if we keep up our inconsistent start then we will have to settle for midtable and hopefully a bigger push next year once we have shifted some of the dead wood.

How do you think you will do against us? We haven't lost at home in the league midweek in about 35 games, so the omens look good but you always seem to turn us over here (like we beat you at the Walkers generally). I'll go for a solid 3-1 win for us whatever happens you will score we haven't kept a clean sheet at home in 17 games.

Any other comments?  If you're going to the game, feel free to nip into the town centre and see our weird brass cow statue it's really, well, naff but on the up side it's near Mannings where you can grab yourself a high quality pie.
