Oppos Views – Huddersfield

A bit about you:

Name: Andy Kilvington, 52 years old, and run a property development company based in Hertfordshire. I am the co-coordinator for Huddersfield Town Supporters Association's Southern Region.

Current hometown: St Albans     Birthplace: Huddersfield

How long have you supported your team? 47 years

Overview of your club:

Not quite a Man U, but a club that has underperformed for some 30 odd years, our rightful place being the higher end of the Championship or possibly even The Premiership. Behind the scenes the club has gone through a transformation in recent months placing us in our strongest position for many a year. There is a fantastic buzz currently and we are all looking forward to a great future. You probably know that we were the first team ever to win the old First Division three times in a row – a unique legacy to every football fan past and present.

Favourite thing about your home ground:  When constructed, The Mac (as it was then) was voted by the RIBA as the building of the year, plus the little known fact that our "banana trusses" were the inspiration behind the Wembley Arch – so we did it all first!….

Favourite match played by your team & why: Beating Mansfield in the plays offs at The Millennium – great game, many local lads on the park, local Manager, great support – and we actually managed to win something in a penalty shoot out!

Favourite player of all time who played for your club: Frank Worthington (I guess you may have heard of him!!)

About our forthcoming match against you:

Tight game between two in form teams. As at home and top of the league, you have to start as favourites, but this could well be the most significant game of the season for us if we manage to gain three points. The unbiased may look at the form book and suggest a draw I suspect.

Your favourite current player in your squad and why?  Andy Booth – he is a legend in Huddersfield. Unless he makes a recovery from injury, it is unlikely he'll feature at The Walkers Stadium, but he is still Town's favourite local son.

Player in your squad we should most fear and why?  Hard call this – overall probably Gary Roberts – quick, incisive and works very hard, but then Danny Cadamateri, Michael Collins and Jim Goodwin have all made exceptional performances of late, so perm any one from the above list. Also, if we are really under the cosh, our young keeper Alex Smithies could be MOM – he put in a truly inspired display in our recent Southend victory.

Player in our squad you most fear and why?     Your top scorer – he seems to score with consummate ease. It has to be Matt Fryatt.

Up and coming prospect in your squad?  Our academy has produced some great talent – James Berrett promises to be our best up and coming youngster of the moment who is now finding his feet and starting to gain regular first team experience.

Where do you think you'll finish this season?  Plays offs, or just outside. Although now looking very good, we had a dreadful start to the season under the old Stan Ternent regime, so we have it all to do now to finish in the top six.

How do you think you'll do against us? I really can't call this! As said earlier – both teams are on form, you are at home, yet we've done better away recently anyway, so all the ingredients are there for a very close game.

Any other comments? How on earth did Leicester end up in this division? A question many neutrals must ask. It is no surprise to see you top of the league and I'm sure you'll go straight back up again, albeit I hope we don't make it too easy for you by having a real go on the 24th!
