Schools Literacy Project Builds On Success

Following the success of and positive response to last year's 'literacy project' which involved Townlands CE Primary from Earl Shilton, for 2009 we are expanding this year to work with two more schools

·       Forest Lodge, New Parks

·       Houghton on the Hill Primary School.

The project began last week with two Tours of the Stadium with 50 pupils from Forest Lodge.

We are fortunate to have the very able support of John Hutchinson who led both tours. John is not only an excellent guide who engages the pupils but also a mine of information on all this Leicester City FC.

Visiting The Home Dug Out

Following this will be a classroom session when John will give a video presentatation and a wealth of memorabilia to share with pupils. This then leads on to pupils writing about their football experience to help improve their literacy skills. This will also include IT generated articles which can be published in a folder.

To conclude the project pupils will be rewarded for their interest and efforts by being invited to a match at the Walkers Stadium.

The Home Changing Room

Houghton on the Hill School will follow a similar pattern and programme later this term.

I would like to place on record sincere thanks to both John and Craig White and his team from the LCFC Community Programme for their support and cooperation in making this project both enjoyable and successful.
