The Foxes Trust, alongside supporters’ trusts at other Premier League clubs, has recently conducted a survey of fans’ views on VAR (Video Assistant Referee) technology.
The Trust’s role is consult and reflect the views of Trust members and LCFC supporters to the club, and it will be writing to Leicester City FC before the vote next week on VAR technology. This vote has been called by Wolves and will involve all Premier league clubs.
Unlike some clubs, e.g. Manchester United, Foxes Trust did not have access to the club’s season ticket holders but did widen out the vote on social media to all fans, and not just Foxes Trust members. 830 LCFC fans voted in total this week whilst the survey was live.
- 60% of all respondents said VAR should be scrapped completely and that it has spoiled their enjoyment of football.
- Another 26% thought it should possibly be scrapped unless improvements were made.
- 7% were unsure as there were some elements about VAR they liked.
- 7% thought VAR should be retained as it is as the game needs the technology to help.
86% of all LCFC fans voting therefore were unhappy with the current VAR system.
The Foxes Trust calls for Leicester City FC, the other Premier league clubs and the Premier League to listen to fans before the 6thJune vote.
It is notable that there was some support for reform of VAR to address its shortcomings and that could be key in the event that Premier Clubs vote to keep VAR.
As we submit our results to LCFC, we will be asking the club how they intend to vote.
