End Of Season Review 2012-13 Part Two

In the second article of the series, we get the views of Northern based, Graham Tracey

How did you rate our season overall: Obviously anti-climactic given that I think we had the most promising group of players for several seasons.

What was your highlight of the season: Scoring 6 goals a couple of times

What was your biggest disappointment: Cheap surrender in the FA Cup

Having been in the automatic places earlier in the season, we only just scraped into the play offs, what do you think were the main reasons for the slump in form? I think there is a losing mentality that has pervaded the club for nearly 10 years and no matter what changes of personnel occur, it has yet to be reversed. I think Pearson recognised this in looking for Man Utd youngsters who will have been schooled in a winning environment, but maybe due to inexperience it fell short.

Wes Morgan won all the official player of the season awards, would he have been your choice and who else impressed you this season:  Yes Morgan, plus Schmeicel, De Laet, Dyer, Waghorn, Schlupp

Which of the players failed to live up to your expectations ? James, King, Wood, Vardy

Overall do you think Nigel Pearson has improved the squad since his return ? Not as yet but I am happy to wait 12 months to see if this answer changes

Off the pitch, the financial accounts up to May 2012 revealed further significant losses, that wages equated to 129% of turnover and with further loans of £15.6m up to 30th Nov 2012, what are your thoughts on these figures? Alarming. I do not think it is necessary to offer such high wages to attract players to Leicester at the level we are at.

From June 1st 2013 financial decisions taken by the club will face sanctions in the 2014/15 season if the club does not conform to Financial Fair Play targets which for next season only permits £5m of investment by the owners. With that in mind how do you think the owners will approach next season ? I was impressed that they did a lap of honour after the Watford league game when it seemed the season was up, so they seem committed for the long haul especially with buying the ground.

Keeping your above answer in mind, what changes to the squad would you make ? Mainly keep it as it is but add an experienced midfielder and striker. And if Schmeicel leaves we will need a new keeper.

Are there any particular players you would recommend to add ? No but I prefer British to overseas signings and permanent to loan signings.

On the assumption Nigel Pearson remains manager, if you had the opportunity to sit down and give him some advice, what would you say ? Its all about the man management / belief side. Invite Martin O’Neill for a pint to see how he did it!

Which clubs do you as the main threat for promotion next season ? Reading, Bolton. No one we can’t compete with.
