In the fourth of the series where members of the Trust website match reporting team give their views on the past season and look forward to the year ahead, long term match reporter and the most recent addition to the Foxes Trust Board, Stuart Dawkins gives his views
What was your highlight of the season
I really enjoyed the Manchester City games – home and away. There was a great atmosphere, good respect from both sets of fans, the Eriksson/Mancini link, the Tony Book link and good performances from City too.
What was your biggest dis-appointment
The inexplicable run of poor results a few matches from the end of the season.
What do you feel were the main reasons City didn’t make the Play Off’s
Inconsistency! But I realise that ducks the question. They gave away too many silly goals in key games, and did not convert enough chances in those same games.
Who was your player of the season and why
I usually have strong views on this. This season I am less sure: King, but he had a few poor games towards the end of the season; Wellens maybe; Naughton did well too. Most improved player was Gallagher. Ok, erm, King, just…..
Of the loan players we have had this season, which players would be the most important to have with us again next season and why
Naughton, but I don't think we'll get him. I would also be happy with Mee, Vitor and Cunningham. Yakubu is interesting, he often looks lazy but a goal every-other-game is a great strike rate at any level of football.
Of those you have named, how likely do you think their permanent signing is
I'd be surprised if we could get Naughton or Cunningham. I don't see why not re Vitor (who was quietly good throughout) or Yakubu. I don't know re Mee.
What do you think the squad lacked this season
Easy answer would be a regular back four and a confident 'keeper.
Name two players (not loans from this season) that you would like Sven to sign next season (and believe we have a realistic chance of signing)
Westwood from Coventry. It's too big a field to pick from otherwise.
Before having any knowledge of the squad make up, how do you rate our chances of automatic promotion for next season
Logic tells me "pretty good", but football does not often follow logic like that.
Any other observation you would like to make
It was an entertaining season. Sven has made a difference and I am eagerly awaiting what he can do with a squad which he will have "owned" during the close season.
