Matthew Upson – Brighton View

The Foxes Trust will endeavour to obtain a view on any new signings LCFC make from a fan of their previous club.

This series of articles kicks off with Tim Carder of Brighton giving his views on…

“Matthew Upson was, at the time of writing, the last England player to score in the World Cup finals, and it was clear to see why he had represented his country on 21 occasions.

He was rarely the star turn at the Amex Stadium, but his sheer level of consistency and performance was outstanding. He read a game to perfection and was therefore usually in the right place at the right time to snuff out an opposition attack. The occasional mistake was more memorable simply because they were so rare.

Matthew is a solid tackler and very good in the air, but he is also a decent ball-player: calm on the ball and rarely putting a pass astray.

Since joining Brighton from Stoke in January 2013, he was an automatic choice and one of the main reasons why Albion have been in the play-offs for the past two seasons.

Matthew was voted Player of the Season for 2013/14. It’s apparent that he could not turn down the chance to play in the Premier League again. Sadly it won’t be with Brighton!”
