A bit about you:
Name: Jon Roadnight – Age 48
I'm a Company Director at an international Security Consultancy firm advising corporate organisations how to secure their assets.
Current home town: Biggleswade, Bedfordshire
Birthplace: Watford
How long have you supported your team? 38 years
Overview of your club:
We are a medium sized club with a great history of community involvement and support. Up until 1976 most of our history was spent in the lower regions of the football league. Then Elton John purchased the club and we started our climb out of oblivion. Within 5 years we were runners up to a great Liverpool side in the old First Division, we enjoyed an eventful UEFA cup campaign the following year and in 1984 we lost to Everton in the FA Cup Final. Since the heady days of the eighties we have yo-yo'd having had 2 single seasons in the Premiership.
Last summer the club was acquired by the Pozzo Family from Italy who also own Udinesse in Italy and Granada in Spain. We are now on a firm but realistic financial footing with some of the best players ever to wear the yellow (or blue) of the Hornets and starting to invest again in the clubs infrastructure. Most supporters feel more optimistic than they have for 20 years.
Favourite thing about your home ground: The fact that the derelict Main Stand is being re-built!
Favourite match played by your team & why: Last season, at home in the Championship versus Leicester – not sure why though :))
Favourite player of all time who played for your club: Luther Blissett – Legend
About our forthcoming match against you:
Tough one for the Hornets. Our form isn't great and we're struggling to recreate the fantastic football of last year. Leicester seem to have started in similar fashion to last year and are scoring plenty of goals so a win for either team would be a big result.
Your favourite current player in your squad and why? Difficult one as there are so many to choose from. Fernando Forestieri would be high on my list. He's got so much ability and his effort is great as well. I've also got to mention Lloyd Doyley who is so solid at the back and been with us since he was a kid.
Player in your squad we should most fear and why? Forestieri and Diego Fabrini – if they are both playing. More talent individually than most Championship teams and once they start to click together they will be awesome.
Player in our squad you most fear and why? David Nugent – regularly seems to score against us.
Up and coming prospect in your squad? Too many to mention them all, which bodes well. Sean Murray, who's just turned 20 has been impressive this year. Started to get a place in the team in spite of our talented squad, which speaks volumes. Via our academy and an excellent prospect who took himself to a fitness and speed academy in the US over the summer to improve himself. That’s the sort of mentality I want to see at our club and for that alone he deserves to be successful.
What are your expectations for your side this season ? We have more points than we did at this stage last year but we're not quite firing on all four at the moment. We have seen glimpses of brilliance and once it all comes together I expect us to go on a long unbeaten run – so long as we rectify our defensive frailties.
How do you think you’ll do against us? Tough game. Current form says a Leicester win but I'm going for a hard fought Watford win 2-1 which might just kick start our season.
Any other comments? Glad to see the Foxes have stabilised over the last year or so. Having stuck with your Manager you're reaping the rewards of continuity and I think you'll be close again this season. My prediction is 3rd behind QPR and the Hornets.
