Getting to Know FT – Ian B

Today’s article gives the low down on the current Trust Chairman

Name:  Ian Bason

Day job: Sales Development Manager

How long have you been on the Trust Board? I was in the working party that formed the Trust in late 2002 and have served on the Interim Board and then formally elected to the board ever since.

What made you come onto the Board? The initial concept of the Trust was to pool existing small shareholders (loads of fans) into group voting and via proxy gain more than 10%, so we could force the board at the time to give answers to fans, as we were concerned about the state of the club. However within days of launching the concept of the Trust, LCFC went into administration, so the initial focus became saving the club, while at the same time ensuring we got a say for investing our (the fans) money

What is your main role(s) on the Board? As Chairman to try to make sure we have a clear focus & drive about the board agreed short term objectives, while ensuring we consult our members as often as practical on a variety of issues while also being realistic about what time a board made up of volunteers can offer….

What do you most like about Foxes Trust? A mixture of ensuring fans views continue to be heard by those running LCFC and to achieve that, listening to members views.

What do you least like about Foxes Trust? When a message board poster wished I was dead, I can take criticism and sarcasm, but the day a fellow fan posted that on a message board, it stepped way over the decency barrier and I sincerely hope he regrets posting it

How long have you been a Leicester City Fan?  Since I was born……

What was your first game?   No I was wrong with my previous answer, for my first game I had a very poor view, it was in the Double Decker, inside my mother.

What was your favourite game of all time? Difficult one, I think the epitome of being a City fan was the 4-3 play off final against Swindon, despair, hope, elation and the final kick in the teeth, but I can always remember most the feeling of elation as our third goal went in.

Any other comments for our membership? Keep renewing and encourage friends, colleagues and those around you at games to join the Trust and hopefully there will be a period in your life when you feel able to stand for the Trust board, which will always evolve as the years go by.

Any other comments for all Leicester City Fans? This season and beyond, can we stop having one player that gets picked on, it drives me mad. From Jon Sammels in the 70’s to Jordan Stewart, there always seems to be a player that gets targeted, even booing before a player gets on to the pitch, how is that supporting your team? Take an example, a player turns & shoots from 30 yards out and the ball flies way over the bar, the targeted player would have all sorts of abuse thrown at him, meanwhile currently if one of our current players did it, all we would hear is HHUUUUUUUMMMMMEEEEEEEE. Let's judge a player on their efforts in each game and encourage them all.

Anything else you have a burning desire to say? Yes, I think the new fans programme planned by MATV is a very interesting development, with much of the local media aligned very closely with the club these days, it’s good to have a new addition to having the fans voice heard which sits well alongside the written format of the Fox Fanzine and the latest technology of Foxpodder.
