End Of Season Review 2015-16 Part Three

Staring a new week with the third in our series of articles from our 2015/6 match reporting team with their views on our season to remember and starting to look at next season.

Today, Eddie Blount provides his thoughts..

At the start of the season, what would you have regarded as a successful season ? A mid-table finish, based on the end of last season and optimism re signings

How far had your expectations been raised by Christmas ? Significantly! It would have taken a complete turn- around for us not to have achieved at least a Europa league place

After which game did you start to think, we could win this ? Man City away! It was probably the best performance of the season and showed that we could live with the big boys

It seems generally agreed across our fan base, that several factors contributed to our success, if you had to choose the most significant factor, what would it be? Club spirit, i.e. the combination of team spirit and fantastic crowd support (a clever way of getting two reasons disguised as one)

Focusing on Claudio Ranieri, what do you think his main contribution was to turn us into title winners ? Tactical nous, particularly showing us how to defend when faced with low possession stats.

What was your personal highlight of the season? Vardy’s thunderous volley against Liverpool.

With our players winning so many national awards this season, who would you pick out as your player of the season? Very close between several players but it must go to the best midfielder we have ever had – Kante

Who within the squad would you award the title “best unsung” hero ? Fuchs – the best left back in the Premiership

A number of players made significant strides forwards with their career, which player do you think made the most progress last season and why? Drinkwater – from not being a regular to playing for England in 12 months!

The club’s success triggered unprecedented media and public interest in Leicester City.  What was your most memorable ‘non-football ‘story about the club last season ? The fact that we became the second favourite team for almost every club in the country and ‘doing a Leicester’ entered the English language. We gave everyone hope!

Moving onto next season

What changes do you think are necessary to improve on this year’s squad? First it all depends on whether we keep out stars. Assuming we do we need another quality striker or two, a goalkeeper, a centre back, a central midfielder or two and a right back. This is our chance to become a bigger club

While watching Premiership games during the 2015/6 season, which player from another club would you advise Claudio to sign? Troy Deeney

Who would you like to face in the Champions League ? No real preferences as by being Champions we have avoided the biggest guns till later in the competition. A couple of fellow newcomers would not go amiss

Any other observation you would like to make Having supported City for some 70 years I cannot tell you how wonderful it has been to see us climb relentlessly to the top of the tree. Totally surreal. It reminded me of stories in the Wizard comic all those years ago when the impossible happened – and the world was a better place because of it!
