The Stadium of Light is easily accessible from the A19 and A1. The stadium’s postcode (for Sat Nav) is SR5 1SU. Parking in the immediate area is limited. A park and ride scheme is in operation – see the advice below.
Park and Ride Scheme
The scheme runs from the Sunderland Enterprise Park on Wessington Way (A1231), which is easily accessible from the A19 and is clearly signposted ‘Park and Ride’.
Pick-up and set-down points on the Enterprise Park are clearly marked. The pick-up points from the Enterprise Park are the permanent bus stops, while pick-up points from the stadium are to the north on Keir Hardie Way.
Buses run every five minutes before the game and regularly afterwards until all supporters have been transported back to their cars.
Park and Walk Scheme
A park and walk scheme operates from two sites at the University of Sunderland – the A183 (Chester Road) and St. Peter’s. Both are clearly signposted. Follow the signs for Matchday Parking.
Street Parking
Many of the streets surrounding the stadium are residential and we respectfully request that all supporters are considerate of residents and local people when parking cars.
Supporters are advised that police parking restrictions will be in place around the stadium due to problems involving vehicles being parked on roads adjacent to the stadium.
Vaux Brewery Way, Stadium Way and Millennium Way are essential in the event of any stadium evacuation and are required to be kept clear of vehicles at all times during matchdays.
Yellow lines are clearly displayed on these roads and the local authority will be enforcing ‘no parking’ regulations at every game, which can result in a fixed penalty ticket being issued.

By Train
Sunderland’s train station is a 10 to 15-minute walk from the ground. It has excellent links to the national rail network and Metro system, ensuring quick and easy travel to other areas of the region.

When travelling to the match, fans have the choice of arriving at either St. Peter’s or the Stadium of Light metro stations prior to the game.
When leaving the Stadium after the match, supporters travelling southbound towards South Hylton must board at St Peter’s. Supporters heading northbound towards Newcastle must board at the Stadium of Light station.
These restrictions have been put in place to ease congestion and ensure a speedy and safe return journey for all fans.
By Bus
Bus numbers 2, 3, 4, 12, 13, 15 and 16 all stop within a few minutes’ walk of the Stadium of Light.
All main bus routes across Wearside connect to Sunderland’s main bus station, Park Lane Interchange, which is also within easy walking distance of the stadium.
Trains take 4hrs, offpeak return £99-60, last train to get back on Saturday 17-47
Singles may work out cheaper.
Pubs
There are two social clubs; the Sunderland Companions club, and the New Democratic Club, both on North Bridge Street (the road approaching the Wearmouth Bridge), which are about a five minute walk away from the stadium. Although they get very busy they do welcome away supporters, and serve reasonably priced beer'.
'The Albion pub, on Victor Street, off Roker Avenue, is a five minute walk from the ground, with some parking nearby. Across the road from the stadium (near to the entrance where the Davy Lamp is situated) is the Colliery Tavern. Although predominantly a home fans pub, it does allow in away fans. There are also good pubs down on the sea front..
